Course description

Can Adults And Children Both Benefit From Regenerative Endodontics?

So far, regenerative endodontic therapies have been used most widely with children, because the roots and tissues of their teeth are still growing and developing, making it easier to bring them back to life. If children suffer from trauma to a tooth during sports or play, it is very important to bring them to see Dr. Kanter as soon as possible (less than 24 hours!), so that she can make sure that the tooth is repaired on the inside as well as the outside. Prompt action will prevent the death of the tooth, infection, and eventually the need for more extensive repair or removal.

The new frontier in regenerative endodontics is working with similar techniques on adult teeth, bringing nerves and other tissues back to life using innovative technologies like lasers and stem cell therapy.

What Is PRF Regeneration?

PRF stands for Platelet Rich Fibrin, a substance created from a patient’s own blood platelets right in Dr. Kanter’s office. A very small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and placed into a centrifuge, which separates red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A gel-like membrane is created from the platelets and white blood cells. This membrane is applied to the area in need of healing. This triggers natural regenerative processes, and may be used in many types of dental procedures.

What Is Vital Pulp Therapy?

In traditional root canal treatment the pulp (the living part of the tooth) is completely removed. Vital pulp therapy treats injured or infected tooth pulp with the intention of keeping it alive. Generally this involves several treatments to remove the damaged or infected part of the pulp, protect the remaining pulp from further trauma, and stimulate the growth of new, healthy pulp.

Unlike traditional endodontic courses taught at University Dental Schools, this course provides the latest ground-breaking research on the topic in both a hands-on classroom setting (simulation lab) as well as live-patient experience.

Dr. Valerie Kanter

Short Bio Sketch

Dr. Valerie Kanter is a third generation dentist, Board Certified Endodontist, professor at UCLA's dental school (Department of Endodontics) and a practicing Integrative and Regenerative Endodontics in Los Angeles, CA.   She graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry with her D.M.D. and M.S. degree with a specialty in Endodontics, and later became a Naturopath through the American College of Integrative Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Kanter lectures internationally on the subject of laser endodontics and teaches post-graduate residents, pre-doctoral D.D.S. and foreign dental students in advanced clinical endodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles.   She enjoys the opportunity to help students acquire real-life clinical skills beyond those that can be taught in a classroom.  In 2018 Dr Kanter founded the ComprEndo Academy, an educational platform for patients and practitioners to explore a functional and integrative approach to dentistry and whole body health.   She currently serves as the IAOMT Endodontic Committee Chair and advocates a patient-centered, biological approach to endodontics.   As an oral health care professional, she strives to go above and beyond the so-called traditional standard level of care.  She is a trailblazer in the adaption of platelet rich fibrin and laser technologies, as a more natural and chemical-free approach to the treatment of root canals.

  • Professor, Department of Endodontics, UCLA, California

  • Endodontist in Beverly Hills, California

  • Lead Educator of the Endodontic-specific courses offered at PRFEDU

  • International Lecturer combining lasers + PRF for pulp regeneration

  • Member of several nationally recognized dental associations such as the AAE, ADA, ALD, CDA, HDA, IABDM, and IAOMT.

  • Dr. Kanter is at the forefront of applying less-invasive, chemical-free and biological approaches to traditional endodontic therapies such as root canals and microsurgery
